COHUNACO’S 4 YEAR ANNIVERSARY!

It's hard to believe that 4 years ago we took over an unused building in the centre of our great little town...formerly known as 'Crystal Paradise' she just needed some love & attention and a lick of paint to be restored to her former glory 🙌

We had some pretty lofty hopes and dreams for the impact our ideas could make. Some people doubted us, but even more supported us and look at what we have created!

Despite several years of being shut down, CohunaCo has never been a busier hive of activity and there's always something interesting going on. We are so lucky to have our two permanent partners providing massage services (@Kookaburra Massage & @Wellbeing Therapeutic Massage) as well as fantastic outreach services (too many to name!!) and local businesses using our meeting spaces regularly.

We even get the odd co-worker needing a flexible space to work from -and with the way the world is now, we think that the demand for this will grow further! People are now open to working & studying remotely, and sometimes home is not the most convenient place for this.

Overall, despite our ideas being fairly 'new age' when we started up, we are happy to be early-adopters of new ways of doing things. We don't want anyone in our community to be disadvantaged because of where they live. That has always been our 'why' and it's what we come back to every single time we feel like it's all a bit hard.

It's pretty cool that the original ideas behind Crystal Paradise are being incorporated -with the massage services, meditation sessions and counselling/wellbeing specialists visiting.

Looking towards the future we have open minds and are always thinking of avenues and ideas that could potentially improve the lives of our locals, bring people to Cohuna and build upon the incredible resources that we already have locally.

We love showcasing our town and also challenging the status quo with new tangents, by trialling different things and by constantly listening and learning what the community wants and needs.

A bit of CohunaCo’s back-story and plans for the future:

CohunaCo is a relatively new business that has been growing rapidly since it’s inception in January, 2019.

As a coworking centre and flexible hire space - it’s a bit of an abstract idea and one that people are still wrapping their heads around!
Although, now that most people are used to the idea of working remotely (due to 2020!), CohunaCo is becoming a popular place for people to set up their flexible workspace and focus on being productive.

As CohunaCo’s founders, we (Amy & Shannon) have had dreams of contributing positively to the development of our community and to really get involved in promoting the awesomeness that already exists as well as assisting with seeking opportunities for further growth.

We are now lucky to have secured our first permanent partner - A Life Simply Lived Psychology - who outreach to Cohuna from their Boort practice. It was our 2-3 year goal to secure psychological services for our community and we’ve managed to achieve this within our first year of operation!

In early 2020 we moved into ‘phase 2’ of our plans which was to set up a business growth support community. By creating ‘CohunaCo Collective’, we brought together 30 like-minded businesses and organisations who were keen to connect and collaborate with other local businesses.

We also developed the Bush Biz Boost pilot program which allowed 10 local businesses to participate in an intensive 6-week program focused on helping them connect with experts on ‘business basics’ such as marketing, profit, mental health, innovation, efficiency and digital opportunities.

Phase 3 of our plans are underway in 2021 - to assist even more businesses in our community and other rural and regional areas to access support and assistance for their business basics. This new offering is called Bush Biz Boost and our new services are available Australia-wide so please get in touch if you’d like more information (or head to our website and social media).

We also hope to begin some advocacy work to ensure that regional businesses are recognised for their vital part in the economic system and to strengthen their opportunities for the future.

CohunaCo is our love-job and our creative outlet. Bush Biz Boost is our new business which we hope to build into a large enterprise and employ even more locals and rural experts in the future. In our ‘spare time’ Shannon is a teacher and Amy is a qualified insurance broker, but at night and on the weekends you will find us at CohunaCo or walking our CHO (below) around our gorgeous town discussing ideas about how we can help people in our community and other rural towns. We call these ‘staff meetings’ and we wouldn’t have it any other way!
